Challenge
MSIT Discovery & Collaboration was in the early stages of setting up their incubation team. They asked us to help collaborate on a top initiative from the digital learning platforms team. The vision was to create a platform with thousands of students matched up with tutors at scale to improve online course success. The goal was to validate demand, discover key usage scenarios, and validate solutions related to this tutor matching program for online learners.
Solution
The team ideated on the concept with sketching and prototyping and performed rapid iteration with stakeholders until the vision was captured. We worked on a preliminary test of the concept by adding a ‘Get Help’ CTA the live Microsoft edX course pages from which this concept would launch. When users clicked the CTA, a short survey was initiated that asked users if they would be interested in the idea of receiving help and in what format they would prefer.
Outcome
Our work helped the digital learning platforms team accelerate the testing and validation of this concept. With the delivery of a comprehensive clickable prototype, the incubation team was now equipped to perform usability testing to flesh out additional details and gather more insights. Almost a year later, Microsoft acquired LinkedIn, which at its core, had the key components to make this concept a reality.
